The original Opera House burnt to the ground in 1917. The present building was rebuilt in 1918 and underwent a complete renovation in 2005. The Opera House finally reopened in May of 2011. Also, in March of 2012, this part of the building was given its new name, “The Medallion Opera House”. Today, The Medallion Opera House* is a popular venue for many events, performances, and meetings.
“As an added bonus, air conditioning makes it the perfect location on hot summer nights. Renovating the Opera House was one of the best things Gorham could have done!” as quoted by a Gorham resident, Angela Brown.
